Rwenzori Mountains Trek

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 6 days / 5 nights 1–8 people Equator Safari Co.

About This Tour

The Rwenzori Mountains, known as the "Mountains of the Moon," straddle the Uganda-DRC border and are one of Africa's most dramatic mountain ranges. This 6-day trek follows the Central Circuit Trail through five distinct vegetation zones.

Starting from tropical rainforest, you'll ascend through bamboo zones, heather moorlands, and into the surreal Afro-alpine zone with giant groundsels and lobelias found nowhere else on earth. The summit push to Margherita Peak (5,109m) offers breathtaking views across equatorial Africa.

This is a serious mountain expedition requiring good fitness, but the guides and porters from the local Bakonzo community make it achievable for determined trekkers. The Rwenzoris receive far fewer visitors than Kilimanjaro, offering a quieter, more authentic mountain experience.

Family-friendly and well organized

Traveling with kids can be stressful but the team made it seamless. The children loved the boat cruise and the guides were great with them.

Great safari, minor hiccups

The game drives were fantastic and we saw all of the Big Five. The lodge was comfortable. Only downside was a slight delay on the second day, but overall a wonderful experience.
