About This Tour

This 4-day itinerary combines two of south-western Uganda's greatest treasures: the mountain gorillas of Bwindi and the stunning Lake Bunyonyi.

Lake Bunyonyi sits at 1,962 metres above sea level surrounded by steeply terraced hillsides with 29 islands each carrying their own story. Enjoy canoe trips, island-hopping, and swimming in the safe bilharzia-free waters.

The gorilla trekking in nearby Bwindi is the main event — an intimate hour spent with a gorilla family deep in their forest home.

Day 1
Day 1 — Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Drive from Kampala through south-western Uganda. Pass through Mbarara and arrive at Lake Bunyonyi by late afternoon. Check into your lakeside lodge and enjoy the sunset over the terraced hills.

Day 2 — Lake Bunyonyi Exploration

Full day on the lake. Morning canoe trip visiting Punishment Island and Bushara Island. Swim in the bilharzia-free waters. Afternoon community walk and local school visit.

Day 3 — Transfer to Bwindi & Gorilla Trek Briefing

Short drive from Lake Bunyonyi to Bwindi Impenetrable NP (1–2 hrs). Check in and attend the gorilla trekking briefing. Rest and prepare for the early morning start.

Day 4 — Gorilla Trekking & Return

Early morning gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Trek with rangers to find a habituated gorilla family. Spend one magical hour with the gorillas. Begin return journey to Kampala/Entebbe.
